OUR COUNTRY



OUR COUNTRY


We live in Spain. Spain is a country. Spain's flag is red and yellow. Spain's official language is Castellano (Spanish).




Spain is divided into autonomous communities.
Spain has 17 autonomous communities and 2 autonomous cities: Ceuta and Melilla.

Each autonomous community is different.
Some autonomous communities have their own language.

People speak Euskera (Basque) in País Vasco.
People speak Galego (Galician) in Galicia.
People speak Catalá (Catalan) in Cataluña.





The autonomous communities  have one or more provinces.



The Constitution

The Constitution describes how the government is organised.
The Constitution give us rights and responsibilities.

PLANTS


Plants need...

Plants are living things.
Plants need water,air, sunlight and soil to grow well.


Parts of a plant.

Plants have roots, a stem, leaves and flowers.


The roots take in water from the soil.
The stem holds the plant up.
The leaves take in air and sunlight.
The flowers are colourful and produce seeds.


Trees have a thick, hard stem called a trunk. They have roots and branches. Some trees have fruit.






Deciduous trees lose their leaves in autumn.
Evergreen trees are green all year.


Parts of a Flower

Some plants have flowers. Flowers have different parts.





Flowers, seeds and fruits

Some flowers turn into fruit. The fruit contains seeds. When the fruit falls to the ground, new plants grow from the seeds.







Non-flowering plants

Mosses and ferns don´t have flowers. They reproduce with spores.
Ferns are small and green and live in  shady places.
Ferns do not have flowers or fruits.

ANIMALS





Animals are living things. Living things are born, grow, reproduce and die. Living things have three life processes: nutrition, interaction and reproduction.


Animals are classified into vertebrates and invertebrates.


Vertebrates have a backbone. Mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish are vertebrates.   









Invertebrates don´t have a backbone. Insects, spiders and molluscs are invertebrates.
